The WBA has made a final decision on Jervonta Davis’ title status after a 15-month absence

It was finally confirmed or not Jervonta Davis remains the WBA lightweight champion.

“The Tank” has endured a turbulent 12 months, with inactivity and issues outside the ring leading to many questions regarding his status as WBA lightweight champion.

Although it is widely believed that Davis has already been stripped of the gold, this has recently become known “The Tank” was negotiating a WBA title fight with Floyd Schofieldpotentially paving the way for him to retain his belt if he continues to compete.

It looked like those hopes would soon end after what was now revealed Davis turned to WBO welterweight champion Devin Haynie over the potential fight, and it prompted the WBA to act immediately.

In an official statementThe WBA have confirmed once and for all that The Tank is the interim champion and they have ordered Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi to fight for the vacant belt.

“The World Boxing Association (WBA) announced Jervonta Davis as featherweight champion, while appointing Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi to fight for the division’s currently vacant title.

The pioneering organization’s championships committee has reviewed Davis’ legal situation and made the decision after determining that the ongoing proceedings may prevent him from fulfilling his championship obligations in the short to medium term.”

​​​​​​While some fans may be disappointed to miss the Davies-Schofield fight, it is a good sign that the WBA is going to finally reactivate their world title, which has not been defended since fight between “The Tank” and Lamont Roach in March 2025.
