Hegseth says US will ‘negotiate with bombs’ if necessary as US military announces new strikes
The United States, Great Britain, Australia and 18 other countries called on Iran to stop “deadly plots and other acts of villainy” in Europe, North America and Australia.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the group of countries, which includes Canada, France and several other European countries, said Iran has a long-standing relationship with “international and local criminal groups,” adding that “their use of these groups is deplorable.”
“Attempts to kill, kidnap, harass, intimidate or otherwise attack people on our soil undermine national sovereignty and international norms,” the bulletin said. “These actions must be stopped immediately.”
The group attributed nefarious activities to Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard Corps; its Quds Force, which manages foreign operations; and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security of the country.
He also condemned the “recent campaign of attacks across Europe targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists and US interests, which are being responded to by Harakat Ashab al-Yameen al-Islamiyya and supported by their proxies.”
The seemingly pro-Iranian group Ashab al-Yameen, whose name translates as the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Righteous, has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on Jewish communities in Britain and Europe over the past few months.
In an interview with CBS News in March, a spokesman for the group said, “We will continue to threaten US and Israeli interests around the world until we avenge every child in Gaza, Iran, Lebanon and the resistance countries.”
The full list of signatories to the joint statement: United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.
Germany and Spain, whose leaders recently clashed with President Trump over the war, did not sign the letter.
