Last night brought news that one of the biggest and most anticipated deals of the summer in the Premier League had been completed, with Manchester City agreeing to pay £116m to sign Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
Gundogan backs Anderson to succeed at City
He’s a great player, but that’s a lot of money. Former Manchester City talisman Ilkay Gundogan, who Elliott will be trying to emulate, was asked by ESPN for his opinion on the player:
“I think he’s proven that (he’ll do it), especially last season with Nottingham (Forest). He’s had an unbelievable season. He’s had some great games, also against City,” Gundogan was quoted as saying by ESPN.
“I think he has developed quite impressively over the years and I have every confidence that he will be a great addition to the City squad.
“I’m quite sure that the people in Manchester will be very happy because when you watch him play, you feel that he is someone who sacrifices everything for the team and that’s what you want as a team-mate.”
It’s always hard to justify such a big fee, but if Anderson can achieve half the success of Gundogan, he’ll be a huge hit. First, he has to worry about this World Cup with England, though.
In other news…
Barcelona are considering selling the player they bought just a year ago for big profits.
Several teams are preparing to chase one of the young stars of the World Cup as soon as the tournament is over.
