The picturesque Himachal Pradesh State Cricket Association Stadium witnessed a high-octane drama India gave the long-awaited start Afghanistan tour of India with a sure victory. In a match reduced to 25 overs a side due to continuous rain and a wet pitch, India won Afghanistan for 7 wickets with 13 balls to spare on 13 June 2026 While an explosive batting display kept the Dharamsala crowd on their toes, it was an incredible moment of dynamic delivery from the Indian captain Shubman Gill which grabbed the absolute attention of the first ODI.

Shubman Gill takes a screamer to send Allah Ghazanfar in the first ODI

The defining image of the match took place in the 22nd over of Afghanistan’s innings. Left hand cover Tough Duby operated in the middle of an impressive spell, playing a narrow length to stifle the lower order. In the fourth delivery of the over, Dubey bowled a slow delivery behind, spinning sharply away from the off stump.

Desperately trying to break the shackles and find the border, the sub-par Afghan fighter Allah Ghazanfar threw his bat at him, trying to hit hard across the cover area. However, the lack of pace completely fooled Ghazanfar. The ball caught a fine edge high on the bat, sending it looping towards the slips.

Placed in the slip, Gill displayed lightning reflexes and extraordinary athleticism. As the ball bounced away from him, Gill threw his body to the side with his left arm well above his shoulder as he fell backwards. He gently plucked the ball out of the air and cradled it safely as it tumbled to the turf. Realizing he had performed an absolute world-class screamer, Gill stood up with a big smile, surrounded by his ecstatic teammates. Ghazanfar was sent to collect two balls, leaving Afghanistan reeling at 182/8 as Dhabi celebrated his third wicket of the afternoon.

India’s reply was anchored by a master class from man of the match Gill. After Rohit Sharma failed to end on 16, Gill took complete control of the stadium.
