Anthony Joshua is being honest when asked if he wants to fight training partner Usyk again
Anthony Joshua did not rule out a third meeting with Alexander Usykdespite training together with the Ukrainian on the eve of his next release.
The two heavyweights met for the first time in 2021 Usyk became the two-weight world champion by unanimous decision and dethroned “AJ”.
Their immediate rematch then ended in a split decision defeat for Joshua, who gave a stronger account of himself but ultimately failed to regain his belts in 2022.
Their careers have looked very different since then, but they are now training under the same roof as Joshua prepares to face Christian Preng on July 25.
The 36-year-old will return to action in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after his in the sixth round over Jake Paul in December.
It is also his first trip since a tragic car accident in the same month that killed two of his closest friends in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the dangling carrot is the much-anticipated Tyson Fury showdown, which is set to take place in either the UK or the US later this year.
However, at the same time, Joshua said “Ring” magazine. that he thinks it would be “awesome” to face Usyk in a trilogy fight, which could potentially be explored if he emerges victorious against Fury.
“Usick? It’s up to him. But I think it would be awesome, respectfully. It’s just a friendly competition. It used to be different – there was a real animosity – but now it’s just a friendly competition.”
While Joshua has expressed an interest in reclaiming the world title, it remains to be seen whether Usyk will even compete, let alone hold the belt, until their potential clash.
