The landmark nuclear deal announced between the United States and Saudi Arabia depends on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords, in other words, recognizing the state of Israel, US President Donald Trump said.
“A civilian (no enrichment!) nuclear deal… which only covers non-military uses… will be approved, but is entirely dependent on Saudi Arabia joining the highly respected and successful Abraham Accords,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump’s remarks followed criticism from experts that the deal could threaten future nuclear proliferation in an already volatile region.
The nuclear issue has been at the heart of the months-long US-Israel conflict with Iran.
In 2020, Trump brokered the Abraham Accords, which ensured the historic normalization of relations between Israel and two Arab countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain.
Sudan and Morocco have since normalized relations with Israel.
