The full schedule, dates and venues have been revealed

SA20 organizers have officially announced the full schedule for the fifth tournament, which will be held from January 17 to February 21, 2027.

SA20 2027 will once again feature six franchises competing across South Africa, with the tournament kicking off in Gkeberha and concluding with the final at Newlands in Cape Town. The schedule for the fifth season of the competition has been adjusted to start later than usual to accommodate England’s ODI series against South Africa.

In the SA20 2027 opener, defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape take on Pretoria Capitals in the second leg of the Season 4 final at St George’s Park, Gkeberha on Sunday 17 January.

The league stage will last for a month and each franchise will play home and away at six venues in South Africa. The organizers have also scheduled four Saturday double-headers on January 23, January 30, February 6 and February 13, giving fans the chance to enjoy two matches in one day throughout the tournament.

The play-offs will begin with Qualifier 1 at Boland Park, Paarl on February 16, marking the first time the venue has hosted a play-off in SA20 history. The Wanderers will then host the Eliminator in Johannesburg on February 17 and Qualifier 2 on February 19 before attention shifts to Newlands, Cape Town for the final on February 21.

Newlands will host the championship match for the second consecutive season and the third time since the tournament was launched. Meanwhile, the delayed start to Season 5 ensures there is no clash with England’s ODI series in South Africa, allowing more of the world’s top players to compete.

SA20 League Commissioner Graham Smith said the release of the fixture list marked an important milestone as preparations for the new season gathered pace. He added that opening the tournament with a rematch of last season’s dramatic final would be a great start to another exciting edition of the league.

“The announcement of the Betway SA20 fixtures is always a big moment for us, it’s the first major milestone before the new season and it means the wheels are in motion for us as we approach an incredible month of cricket.

“There’s no better way to kick off Season 5 than with a repeat of one of the most emotional finales in our history. Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals played a classic match in Cape Town last season and it is only fitting that they are the two teams at the center when the season kicks off in Gkeberha on 17 January 2027,” said Smith.

Cape Town will once again host the SA20 final at Newlands and Mayor Jordyn Hill-Lewis welcomed the decision, highlighting the city’s growing reputation as one of the world’s premier cricket venues. He also noted the importance of hosting the SA20 final in the same year that South Africa is set to host the men’s Cricket World Cup.

“The league has become a highly anticipated event in our sporting and cultural calendar, and hosting this final in the same year as we welcome the world to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup shows exactly why Cape Town is one of the greatest cities to play cricket in.
