Bollywood star questions Vaibhav Suaryavanshi; Ryan ten Doeschate issues clarifications
India’s shock T20I series defeat to Ireland has sparked an intense debate over Gautam Gambhir’s team selection. After the Men in Blue struggled mightily and lost both the matches, everyone is just wondering why teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suoryavanshi was not given a single chance.
Now, Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh has joined the debate on social media. Soon after India’s 0-2 defeat against Ireland, the actor questioned Suoryavanshi’s neglect of both games in Belfast. But India coach backs Sanju Samson over Vaibhav Suaryavanshi despite odds.
The pair of Sanju Samson-Abhishek Sharma failed to fire in Ireland
India went out with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as openers in both the T20Is against Ireland. In the second match, both Samson and Abhishek were dismissed for ducks. However, Abhishek reached his fifty early in the series but Samson was dismissed cheaply.
Apart from them, the rest of the batting didn’t click either; as a result, India could not avoid an ignominious defeat in the T20I series. Ireland played fearless cricket in both games and completed a historic clean sweep against the T20 World Cup champions.

Riteish Deshmukh urges Vaibhav Suaryavansha to make India debut after Ireland series loss
After the series loss, many fans wondered why one of India’s most exciting young batsmen, Vaibhav Suaryavanshi, was left sitting in the dugout despite being in great form. Riteish Deshmukh also took to social media and questioned the call by the Indian team management.
The Bollywood actor urged the team management not to make Vaibhav wait and give him his T20I debut. He wrote to X: “Make Vaibhav Suryavanshi play already! What are we waiting for???”

The 15-year-old did almost everything a young batsman could do to knock on the selector’s door. During IPL 2026, Vaibhav Suaryavanshi played fearless cricket and ended the season with an orange cap. He amassed 776 runs in 16 innings at a staggering strike rate of 237.31.
Even during the one-day final of the tri-series against Sri Lanka A, the left-hander once again showed why everyone is talking about him, smashing 94 runs from just 29 balls to help India. He won the final against Sri Lanka A. However, India chose not to include him in the playing XI against Ireland.
Ryan ten Dushat explains why Gautam Gambhir can’t ditch Sanju Samson for Vaibhav Suaryavanshi
After the second and final T20I game against Ireland, India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Duschat explained the reason for the decision. He said that the coaching staff has full faith in Vaibhav’s talent and feels that he is ready for international cricket, but they cannot give up on Sanju Samson.
Ryan ten Duscheit said: “He’s fully ready to play international cricket; there’s no doubt about that. But also, I think it’s not a question of saying you can leave out Sanju Samson. A guy who came a long way to win the World Cup in India three months ago. A guy who had a pretty good IPL.”
He added: “It’s important in terms of the confidence of the players and the message we send to the players. We want to give the lads a long tenure in the team. So as much as Vaibhav is ready and as much as we’re excited to see him play, he’s going to have to go through the same process as everyone else, wait and wait. But of course there’s no question about how good he is and how ready he is.”
