Moses This is going to hurt He is expected to be a major force in the heavyweight division, but whether he gets a chance to assert himself against the likes of Tyson Fury, Alexander Usyk or Anthony Joshua remains to be seen.
Itauma has bettered Fury and AJ in their last two fights, stopping Dillian Whyte in the first round of their fight three years after he lasted Fury for six rounds, and finishing Jermaine Franklin in five rounds, three years after the American went the distance with Joshua.
Those triumphs pushed Itauma up the rankings to where he is now is positioned as a mandatory contender according to the WBOready to fire at the winner of the expected rematch between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley if his team decide to go that route.
However, if the boy wishes to face the old guard and confront Fury, the latter said TV iFL that any offer should be beneficial.
“Nothing, but obviously the money (would tempt me to fight Itauma). Sure, I’m the prize, show me the money and I’ll do the job, but at the end of the day, if there’s no big money, what’s the point? He’s got no belt, he’s got nothing, what’s that for?”
“I don’t need to fight f***ing kids, you know what I mean? Look, Moses is a good guy, he’s a great boxer and all, great, but if it’s not going to make a lot of money, why would I want to fight Moses for anything?”
Fury then praised the talent of his fellow Queensberry heavyweight, admitting Itauma was “definitely the real deal” after sparring regularly with the Kent-based sensation.
“I’ve had Moses in four or five camps and he’s a good kid. Good punch, good speed, good boxing IQ, he listens, which is very important, he takes it all on board and he’s a good learner as well.
“He’s got speed and athleticism, he’s definitely the real deal, if he wasn’t I’d say, but don’t forget I’ve been the one pushing him for the last four years!”
Fury will return to action this summer, with another recent sparring partner in Nelson High is considered one of the leading options for the away corner.
As for Itauma, his August fight is expected to be announced soon, with Filip Hrgovic still the favorite.
