Amir Jang’s double century helped West Indies dominate Sri Lanka in the first Test
West Indies produced a ruthless all-round performance to register a massive win over Sri Lanka in the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. After being bowled out for a total of 308 in the first innings, the hosts piled up a mammoth 629/9 before bowling out Sri Lanka for just 101 in the second innings to seal one of the most comprehensive Test victories. Amir Jangu took off with a magnificent double century, a Roston Chase came close to a double hundred before the West Indies finished the contest with ease.

Sri Lanka made a promising start to the Test by scoring 308 in their first innings, largely thanks to their captaincy Dhananjaya de Silvaexcellent 120 and Dinesh Chandimala tough 54. However, the visitors failed to build on that foundation as the West Indies players controlled the score. Justin Greaves was the pick of the attack, taking 3/39 to ensure Sri Lanka never regained complete control despite De Silva’s resistance.
The momentum changed dramatically once West Indies started their reply. Jangu, who opened the scoring, played all the moments of his career as he produced a sensational 233 that laid the platform for a dramatic result. With patience and authority, Jangu punished erratic deliveries while rotating the strike effectively, leaving the Sri Lankan bowlers scrambling for answers.
Captain Chase, on the other hand, provided perfect support with a marathon knock of 194. Chase missed out on a well-deserved double century but had already done irreparable damage by the time he was dismissed. The duo’s formidable partnership completely wore down the Sri Lankan attack and ensured the hosts were in complete command throughout the innings.
Sri Lanka’s only bright spot with the ball made its way through Milan Priyanath Ratnayakewho finished with figures of 5/124. Despite five wickets, the visitors struggled to contain a relentless West Indies batting line-up as the hosts posted a daunting 629/9.

Trailing by 321 runs, Sri Lanka needed a resilient batting to avoid defeat by an innings. Instead, their batting line-up collapsed spectacularly under the relentless pressure of the West Indies attack.
Only Chandimal offered much resistance with a fighting score of 43 while the rest of the batsmen failed to put up any significant scores. Kemar Roach rolled back the years with a clinical spell, finishing with excellent figures of 4/51 to dismantle the middle and lower order. The experienced fast bowler found consistent movements and produced enough bounce to trouble every batsman who reached the crease. Sri Lanka ended up being bowled out for just 101, giving the West Indies a crushing innings win and a 1-0 series lead.
