Harry Brooke reveals Brendon McCullum’s key message after England’s ODI series win over India

England made a great turn to defeat India in the ODI series after recovering from the loss in the first game. The hosts sealed the streak with a 27-run victory in the decider at Lord’s, capping off a successful white-ball campaign that also included a T20I series triumph.

After winning the series, the captain of the England team Harry Brooke – praised the head coach Brendan McCallum for an important tactical suggestion at a crucial stage of the match. Brooke revealed that a short conversation with an ex New Zealand the skipper helped England regain control when India looked set to chase down a massive target.

“It was a tough little spell. They were obviously ahead of the game and playing really well. I decided to go and have a quick chat with Baz to get his thoughts. He said, ‘Try Beth, a bit of a different spinner to what we have when he gets him on the field’, and luckily it worked. The communication was great throughout the T20s and ODIs.” said Brooke.

Brooke is delighted after England’s memorable series win

Brook praised the resilience shown by his side after the opening ODI defeat, saying the team’s belief and cohesion played a major role in completing the comeback. England posted a record total of 387/3 at Lord’s, built around by Ben Duckett a magnificent 141, while Joe Ruth and If Butler also made valuable contributions. Despite Rohit keeping India in the contest with a superb score of 138, England held their nerve in the closing stages to secure a 27-run victory and wrap up the series 2-1.

“I’m very happy with the way we performed throughout the series. To come from 1-0 down and fight back, the camaraderie and the belief to win 2-1 in the end is a credit to the team, the coaches and a great performance.” said Brooke.

Brook also admitted that juggling managerial duties across all formats in the future would be difficult, but said he would consider the opportunity if it ever presented itself.
