Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina: Commentary, updates, goals and stats as World Cup co-hosts open Group B play

Canada open their World Cup campaign against Bosnia-Herzegovina tonight with a lot of pressure on Jesse Marsh’s side.

The hosts have been hailed as “the best Canadian side of all time” and are expected to advance through Group B, which appears to be one of the weakest groups in the tournament and includes Switzerland and Qatar.

Bosnia showed great resilience in qualifying for the tournament via the UEFA play-offs, scoring in the semi-final against Wales and in the final with Italy win both matches on penalties.

They are looking for just their second World Cup finals victory, having previously beaten Iran 3-1 in 2014 in their only previous appearance since the country gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1992.

While friendly draws with North Macedonia and Panama in their warm-up games were hardly inspiring results, Bosnia have started the game in impressive competitive form, losing just one of their last 11 (W5, D5).
