At least three US service members were killed in attacks by Iran over the weekend. <\/p>\n

A third American soldier was killed in northern Iraq after a “controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way strike drone.” CENTCOM said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The first two were killed in a strike on a US airbase in Jordan. The remains were found after another soldier at the base was reported missing following the attack, but they have not yet been identified.<\/p>\n

The drone strike was the second time in two days that Iran had managed to directly hit the base. A total of four Iranian attacks on US forces in Jordan in five days have left several people injured, raising questions about whether missile defense systems failed to intercept them or missed their approach.<\/p>\n

CENTCOM promised over the weekend “quick to punish<\/a>Iran for striking Jordan.<\/p>\n

President Trump paid tribute to the fallen on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“Well, we feel really bad,” he said. <\/p>\n

“But, you know, those great people, those great patriots who are fighting that Iran can’t have nuclear weapons,” he added, although the recent US airstrikes were aimed at restoring the Strait of Hormuz, not dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.<\/p>\n
