According to the Associated Press, at least 10 people have been killed in federal immigration enforcement since Trump began his deportation campaign after returning to office in January 2025. At least four of those deaths were caused by vehicles.<\/p>\n
John Sandweg, who served as ICE director under former President Barack Obama, told the AP that there have been about 18 traffic shootings during Trump’s immigration crackdown.<\/p>\n
The trend prompted Maine Sen. Susan Collins to call on Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to suspend “all non-emergency vehicle stops,” she said Tuesday.<\/p>\n
ICE said it is increasingly relying on traffic stops as more immigrants avoid arrest by refusing to leave their homes.<\/p>\n
