Core CPI cooled to 2.6%, below forecasts, and was flat on the month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">Crypto squeezed higher within minutes. Bitcoin jumped from around $62,000 to <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/373488\/bitcoin-ticks-up-to-64k-following-largest-inflation-slowdown-in-six-years\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-adb616fe-0 bJsyml\">reclaim $64,900<\/a>ETH surged 7% to $1,884, and roughly $300 million in short positions were liquidated as bears got run over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">Notably, this was the last major inflation read before the Fed\u2019s July 28-29 meeting, and it undercuts the rate-hike case that\u2019s been capping the market all summer. The odds of a July rate cut fell from 35% on Polymarket to just 6% in the wake of CPI + Warsh\u2019s commentary. Though odds of at least 1 hike are still ~80% by end of year (down from 90%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">Within hours of the CPI print, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh testified to Congress, his first appearance since taking over from Powell. The major takeaway from his testimony was his comment that if the Fed gets policy right, the inflation surge of the last five years \u201cwill be a thing of the past.\u201d He leaned hard into the AI story too, calling business investment the most striking feature of the economy and predicting that what\u2019s now called \u201cAI investment\u201d will soon just be called \u201cinvestment,\u201d a view that AI is fundamentally disinflationary.<\/p>\n<div class=\"relative w-full\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet mx-auto\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Warsh: Fed has \u201cno tolerance for persistently elevated inflation\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we get policy right\u2014and we will\u2014the inflation surge of the last five years will be a thing of the past.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RvCRxzdPuS\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">https:\/\/t.co\/RvCRxzdPuS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nick Timiraos (@NickTimiraos) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickTimiraos\/status\/2077007868537028925?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener\">July 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">That said, when asked directly about the morning\u2019s CPI data, he pushed back on the optimism, saying some might look at it and declare \u201cmission accomplished,\u201d and then adding flatly, \u201cthat is not my view.\u201d He gave no forward guidance, no signal on the next move, and reminded lawmakers the committee has \u201cno tolerance\u201d for elevated inflation. Some (myself included) may interpret that as a bit hawkish, and it does still feel like a rate hike may very well come in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">Perhaps we will learn more at FOMC in 2 weeks.
