Joe Joyce<\/a> lost for the fifth time in his last six fights when he was stopped by Artem Suslenkov on Saturday, and now fellow British heavyweight and former sparring partner Dave Allen has given his opinion on Joyce’s performances and recent form.<\/p>\n

After a knockout victory over Joseph Parker in 2022, Joyce appeared ready to challenge for a world title given the fact that he held the WBO interim belt, but back-to-back knockout losses to Zhilei Zhang<\/a> caused The Juggernaut to lose both his belt and his momentum.<\/p>\n

The granite-chinned Brit was previously unconvincing in his return to winning ways against Kash Ali in 2024 and has since lost to Derek Chisori, Filip Hrgovic and Suslenkov – who stopped him in a strange way in Moscow at the weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Talking to Stomp<\/a>Allen praised Joyce for giving him some of the toughest sparring matches of his career and admitted he may have been the best heavyweight on the planet at one point.<\/p>\n

“I watched Suslyankov in December, he boxed Stanley Wright at the IBA show, I was there <\/span>and i watched it. Suslenkov is good, but Joe Joyce is one of the best fighters I’ve ever sparred with.<\/p>\n

“We sparred for about six years and we had some of the hardest spars you’ll ever see in your life, I’d give him three (punches) and he’d give me six back. I’d take six to bring back two or three. <\/span><\/p>\n

“He was as tough as nails, he was so strong, he had work rate, and when he beat Parker, he was maybe the best heavyweight in the world, you know. Imagine Usyk trying to hold him for 12 (rounds) at that point, that would be asking a lot of him.<\/p>\n

“So for me at one point Joe could have been the best heavyweight in the world. I love Joe Joyce, I respect him a lot, he’s one man I’ve never shouted at because he scares me, he’s just an absolute beast!”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However, after seeing the 40-year-old lose to Suslenkov, Allen described Joyce’s fall as “sad” before suggesting it was time for the Londoner to hang up his gloves.<\/p>\n

“Watching him with Suslyankov was really sad, the writing was on the wall because he weighed more than 20 stone. <\/span><\/p>\n

“I never have to tell anybody to stop boxing because people tell me that all the time and I say, ‘Well, it’s not your life, it’s none of your business,’ but now with Joe Suslenkov, he’s good, but Joe Joyce at his best won’t lose to Suslenkov. I don’t think he’d lose to Phil Hrgavich either. <\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m very sad. I can only hope that he has enough money to finish and be happy with what he got.” <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Joyce has not yet announced whether he will fight again, but Fighters and fans alike believe he should put his health first and retire from the sport.<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n
