Shiller receives the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences during the award ceremony on December 10, 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden.<\/span><span>    (Pascal Le Segretin\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Schiller fears that similar anxieties inherent in us will rear their heads again.<\/p>\n<p>He quoted a <a href=\"https:\/\/poll.qu.edu\/poll-release?releaseid=3955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Quinnipiac poll<\/a> from March, which showed that 70% of people believe that artificial intelligence will reduce the number of jobs. In addition, only 16% of Americans believe that artificial intelligence will have a positive impact on society within the next two decades. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2026\/06\/17\/americans-and-ai-2026-chatbots-smart-devices-and-views-on-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Poll by Pew Research<\/a> is held in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike many others, I believe that artificial intelligence can reduce employment. But unlike most, I don&#8217;t necessarily blame the technology itself. Instead, I worry about the power of fear it generates,\u201d Schiller wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur brains are wired to respond to stories.
