Jeff Metcalf shared his reaction to the verdict<\/h3>\n

Although Jeff Metcalfe has talked about pain<\/a> after losing his 17-year-old son, he revealed he also felt compassion as he watched Carmelo Anthony, now 19, learn his fate in court. Anthony was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison. Speaking about the moment, Jeff told CBS News, \u201cI’ll even say this: I was a little sad because I’m human.<\/strong>“He continued,”And this poor boy is about to experience a life I wouldn’t wish on anyone<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeff also explained that his decision to forgive Anthony was due to his own healing process, not reconciliation. “The gift was not for him. The gift was for me<\/strong>he said.So I don’t carry anger, hatred and all that; it will eat me like a cancer.<\/strong>While expressing his condolences, Jeff made it clear that he still believes Anthony should have been punished more severely.<\/p>\n

Metcalf rejects racial claims in the case<\/h3>\n

The sentence allows for a future parole review, but Jeff said he intends to oppose any attempt to free Anthony. “If I’m still alive, yes, I will be there in person<\/strong>” he said. Jeff continued, “If not, I’m going to make a video. If I’m handed over, it can be played.<\/strong>“Jeff also addressed the ongoing claims that race played a role in the case, rejecting that narrative.”This case was never about race<\/strong>“He claimed.<\/p>\n

He added:Now there are going to be people who just, you know, try to cast a shadow over the whole trial with the composition of the jury and the speed of it and things like that. I mean, these are the same people who said four people jumped on him.
