Chelsea have agreed to sell Marco Cucurella to Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old is currently in the United States with the Spanish national team and will complete his move once the World Cup concludes.
Several clubs were interested in signing him, but the former Barcelona defender wanted to sign a contract with Real Madrid. He has been linked with a return to Barca, as well as Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.
The fee has not yet been disclosed but is believed to be in excess of €50m (£43.1m). Chelsea signed Cucurello from Brighton four years ago for £63m.
It has already been a very busy summer for Real Madrid’s new coach. Jose Mourinhowho will officially start work at his new club next month. Offers for Ibrahim Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernard Silva were already provided.
Cucurello made public comments criticizing Chelsea’s transfer policy and decision to sack Enzo Maresco leave at the beginning of the year.
He is not considered one of Chelsea’s ‘untouchable’ players, for one thing Cole Palmer and Rhys James.
Defender of the Netherlands Jorel Huttowho joined from Ajax last summer for £37million, is now in contention to be Chelsea’s main left-back next season, although the club could also strengthen in that position.
Cucurella’s transfer to Real Madrid is completely separate from any possible transfer Enzo Fernandez to the same club.
Chelsea have a very good relationship with Real Madrid, but they won’t let Fernandes go for less than £120m. He moved to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in 2023 for £106.8m.
