Liverpool will renew their move towards Klopp’s £44m target

The summer transfer window has not yet officially opened, but Liverpool no punches when they push to power up Andoni Iraolasquad

Which arises Ian Diamande was listed as the main target of the FSG, but with RB Leipzig insists on a nine-figure figure amid rival interest from Paris Saint-Germain, it goes without saying that nothing is set in stone.

Iraola, 43, is one of the most exciting young managers in the world and has shown skill, style and substance during his three campaigns with Bournemouth. Perhaps more importantly, he has shown resilience, somehow going from strength to strength despite losing key personnel each year.

Iraola’s tactical vision will not be realized without a significant increase in stamina. An incisive winger like Diamande could help with that, but Liverpool’s midfield has been the epicenter of their crisis under Slot Arneand FSG have no plans to neglect the engine room at Anfield.

Liverpool are studying terms for their former top target

Iraola’s football is aggressive, using the verticality of possession, which basically means they get on the front foot and look to break the defensive line with sharp and quick passes.

Fitness levels need to be maintained at a high level and because of this Liverpool must look to changes in midfield, with Alexis Mc Allister unable to handle the pressure and intensity Major league this season.

Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that several European teams are considering the 27-year-old, still one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. If Liverpool do sell, they will certainly need to get a suitable upgrade, someone who can embrace Iraola’s high-octane approach.

According to Tutto Juvethat man could be Juventus’ Heffren Thur, one of Liverpool’s top targets as Jurgen Klopp revamps his aging engine room in 2023 – Mack Allister is one part of that remake.

Thuram, 25, has the physical and technical characteristics to embody the principles Iraola wants in his central midfielders. Manchester United and Galatasaray are also interested, and while Juve are unwilling to sell, they failed to qualify for the Champions League and will therefore be in talks for around €50m (£43m).

Why Thuram is better than Mac Allister

Mc Allister has been a Liverpool stalwart for the last three years, but we can’t ignore the Argentine’s stunning decline this season, which is hampering the Reds’ hopes of retaining the Premier League title.

FSG needs to weigh the risks of keeping the faith. Also, Mack Allister only has two years left on his contract, so selling him now could mean good business.

Especially when Thuram is welcomed to Anfield as his replacement. The France international has been described as “a one-man army” in midfield by talent scout Jacek Kulig during his time at OGC Nice, and now at Juventus, the same praise: Touram won the ball in the middle of the pitch and turned it into something tangible in the final third.

Surely this would see Liverpool renew Mack Allister, whose pace and physicality have left him. He rarely made runs forward during the Slot’s second season, regressing in almost every measure that made him one of the Premier League’s best during the title-winning 2024/25 campaign.

In truth, both midfielders share a number of attributes. Both bring a combination of creative and combative skills to the table, and both midfielders pass intelligently, picking the right passes and releasing the ball at the right moment.

In Serie A, Thuram is one of the most progressive midfielders and that is the key difference as Liverpool look to lift themselves up and start a new era.

Thuram could be the catalyst for a Liverpool squad that needs to make a number of changes this summer. The likes of Diamande would be significant spending and another forward plus one or two full-backs could also be on sporting director Richard Hughes’ agenda.

Available and with elite potential, Toure could prove to be a hit for Liverpool, who make their move three years after their initial enquiry.
