One of best games of 2023 is finally coming to mobile in the US. Diver Dave will be available for iOS and Android devices this August after its release in China earlier this year. This version looks like a port of the entire game, not some stripped-down mobile experience.
For the uninitiated, Diver Dave is a quirky and addictive game that combines underwater exploration, roguelite mechanics and restaurant management. Throughout the day, players explore the ever-changing underwater world in search of resources, upgrades, and ingredients for the restaurant.
At night, the gameplay shifts to restaurant management. This includes hiring people, creating new dishes and of course successfully serving dinners. The last part includes a fun mini-game that vaguely resembles the arcade classic Now.
Both aspects of the gameplay are related to each other. Destroying the fearsome shark, which can appear almost anywhere while diving, opens up new menu items and so on. There’s also a long story and lots of fun side characters.
The only potential downside here is with the environment. Diver Dave requires extremely precise inputs both while diving and while working with dinner service. To do this, use a Bluetooth controller.
